A Study on the History of Abbreviations Used in Russian and Turkish Languages

Öz

Rus ve Türk Dilinde Kullanılan Kısaltmaların Tarihi Üzerine Bir İnceleme

Bu çalışmada, kelime türetme yöntemleri içerisinde en yenisi olmasına rağmen, geçtiğimiz yüzyılın başı itibariyle kullanımı oldukça artan kısaltmaların, Rus ve Türk dillerinde ortaya çıkışı ve yayılma süreci incelenmektedir. Günümüzde Rusça ve Türkçenin söz varlığı içerisindeki yeri tartışılmaz olan kısaltmaların geçmişte hangi neden ve amaçla ortaya çıktığı, dilde yaygın kullanımına etki eden unsurlardan söz edilmektedir. Elde edilen veriler ışığında bugün kullanılan kısaltma türlerinin geçmişte de “dilde az çaba yasası”nın bir ürünü olduğu, Rusça ve Türkçede XX. yüzyılın başlarından itibaren sayısının hızlı bir şekilde çoğalmasının ise, Rus ve Türk halklarının bu dönemde yaşam biçimlerindeki köklü değişimin bir sonucu (savaşlar, devrimler, bilim ve teknikte yenilikler, uluslararası ve sosyo-kültürel ilişkiler) olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract

In this study it is researched how these abbreviations which are so popular among russian and turkish languages since the beginning of last century, came to existence and spread eventhough it is one of the newest method of lexicalise. The factors leading to the popularity of abbreviations whose place in languages of Russian and Turkish can not be debatable and whose usage has been spreading, the reasons and aims of existence in the history are dealt with in this study. In the light of the consequences of this study, it has been determined that the abbreviations used today are the products of the law of “less effort in the language” and that the fast spread of them in Russian and Turkish since the beginning of 20th century is the result of dramatic changes in their life styles such as wars, revolutions, the advances in science and technology, international and socio-cultural relations.
