Leopold Levy as an Artist and Art Teacher and His Effect on Turkish Painting

Sanatçı ve Sanat Eğitimcisi Olarak Leopold Levy ve Türk Resim Sanatına Etkisi

Akademi reformu kapsamında ülkemize davet edilen sanatçılardan biri olan Fransız ressam Leopold Levy, 1937 yılında üstlenmiş olduğu Resim Bölümü şefliği görevini 1949 yılına kadar sürdürmüştür. Ulusal yayınlarda eserlerinin görsellerine neredeyse rastlayamadığımız, Türkiye’deki sanat ve sanat eğitimi sürecinin bir döneminde önemli bir yer tutmuş olan Leopold Levy’nin 1920 ile 1966 yılları arasında yapmış olduğu kırk (40) adet eserini, Ünal-Ceyda Göğüş koleksiyonu TÜYAP Artist 2014 24.Uluslararası Sanat Fuarı’nda izleyiciyle buluşturmuştur. Araştırmada, söz konusu sergide yer alan eserleri hakkında genel bir analiz yapılmaya çalışılmış olan Levy, Atatürk’ün emriyle açılan Türkiye’nin ilk Resim-Heykel Müzesinin düzenlenmesinde bizzat çalışmış ve Batı Sanatının Bonnard, Derain, Marquet, Segonzea, Braque, Picasso, Matisse ve Dufy gibi ünlü isimlerine ait eserlerin müzeye kazandırılmasını sağlamıştır. Akademi’de gravür atölyesini kurmuş, kütüphanenin zenginleştirilmesine, çeşitli gazete ve dergilerdeki yazıları, konferansları ve açtığı kişisel sergilerle Türkiye’de sanat ortamının gelişimine ve bugün Türk Resim Sanatında önemli yeri olan sanatçıların Akademi kadrolarına kazandırılmasına katkı sağlamıştır. Bireyselliğe önem veren eğitim anlayışıyla, öğrencilerine sürekli olarak “kişilik” düşüncesini aşılamaya çalışan, Batılı üslupları tamamen reddetmeden Anadolu ile bağlantısı olan bir sanat anlayışının filizlenip yerleşmesine destek olan Levy, Çağdaş Türk Resim Sanatında önemli yer tutan bir sanatçı kuşağının (Yeniler) yetişmesinde de büyük paya sahiptir. Türkiye’den ayrıldıktan sonra da Paris’te bir Türk dostu olarak yaşamaya devam eden Levy, ömrünün sonuna kadar Paris’e yolu düşen Türk sanatçılarıyla iletişimini koparmadan onlara destek olmaya devam etmiştir.

Abstract

Leopold Levy, a French painter who was invited to our county in the framework of the academic Reforms, worked as the head of painting department of the art academy between 1937 and 1949. Forty paintings of Leopold Levy, who assumed an important duty in a certain the period of Turkish art and art teaching, whose visual works are scarcely seen in the national literature, belonging to Ünal-Ceyda Göğüş collection painted between 1920 and 1966, were exhibited in the TUYAP 2014 24th international art fair artist. This paper is related to the general evaluation of the paintings in the exhibition. Levy, who worked for the establishment of the Arts and Sculpture museum upon the request of Atatürk played an important role in the acquisition of the art pieces of Bonnard, Derain, Marquet, Segonzea, Braque, Matisse and Dufy. He established the mosaics work shop in the academy and contributed to the enrichment of the art library and published so many Articles in various journal and news-papers, submitted Presentations in various conferences and opened individual exhibitions made a great Contribution for the development of the medium of art in Turkey and played an important role in the training of so many artists in Turkish painting. Levy, who attached an utmost Importance upon individually tried constantly to promote the personality of the students. Levy, who never denied the western style understanding of art had an important role in the germination of a new art concept in Anatolia, assumed an important duty in the training of a new generation of artists who had an important role in the development of Contemporary Turkish Painting (the news). Levy, who lived in Paris after he left the country remained as a friend of the Turkish people and supported the Turkish artists who came to Paris till the end of feeling life
