A Comparative Analysis of Andres Segovia’s 20 Selection Studies to Their Originals Through the Perspective of Fernando Sor’s Method for the Guitar

Fernando Sor’un Gitar Metodundaki Perspektifle Andres Segovia’nın 20 Etütlük Seçkisinin Orijinalleriyle Karşılaştırılmalı Analizi
Bu çalışmada klasik gitar repertuarında ve eğitiminde önemli bir yeri olan Fernando Sor’un etütlerinin orijinal hali ve gitarist Andres Segovia’nın 20 etütlük seçkisi olan edisyonu Sor’un metodundaki perspektifi ile karşılaştırılmalı olarak analiz edildi. Segovia’nın 20 etütlük seçkisi uzun yıllar müzik eğitiminde önde gelen kaynaklardan biri olmuştur. Ancak Fernando Sor’un etütlerinin orijinallerine bakıldığında önemli farklılıkların olduğu görülmektedir. Bu farklılıklar Sor’un Klasik dönem bakış açısıyla, Segovia’nın Romantik dolaysıyla öznel bakış açısından kaynaklanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Sor’un ‘Methode pour la Guitare’ başlıklı metodunda anlattığı müzikal ve teknik bakış açısı perspektifi, Segovia’nın Romantik dönem stili ile karşılaştırılarak etütler üzerindeki önemli farklılıklar tespit edildi. Segovia’nın seçkisi olan etütler içinden 5, 10 ve 17 numaralı etütler karşılaştırılmalı olarak analiz edildi ve önemli farklılıklar bulundu. Ayrıca Segovia’nın 20 etütlük seçkisi dışındaki 101 etüdün profesyonel gitaristler tarafından yapılan kayıtları araştırılmış, bunlar içinden seçilen 40 önemli gitaristin kayıtları istatistiksel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Bu analizde Segovia’nın seçkisi ve dışında kalan Sor etütler içinden kayıtlarda en çok çalınma oranları tespit edilmiştir.
Abstract
This study comparatively analyzed the original version of Fernando Sor’s studies, which have a significant place in the repertoire and education of classical guitar, and the edition of the guitarist Andres Segovia’s 20 selection studies, with the perspective of Sor’s method. Segovia’s 20 selection studies have been outstanding references in music education for many years. However, examining Sor’s original studies, significant differences can be observed. These differences are based on Sor’s classical perspective and Segovia’s romantic, therefore, subjective perspective. In this study, the musical and technical perspective Sor explained in his method, ‘Methode pour la Guitare,’ was compared to Segovia’s Romantic Era style, and significant differences were determined. Among the selective studies of Segovia, studies numbered 5, 10, and 17 were comparatively analyzed, and significant differences were found. In addition, the professional guitarists’ records of 101 studies out of Segovia’s 20 selection studies were examined. Among these, the selected records of 40 important guitarists were statistically analyzed. In this analysis, the most played ones of Sor’s studies were determined, for the ones included in Segovia’s selection, as well as the ones not included.
