Pan God in Greek Mythology and Its Reflection in Painting

Yunan Mitolojisinde Pan Tanrısı ve Resim Sanatına Yansıması
Mitoloji sözlü ve yazılı anlatılar olarak geçmişten günümüze kadar birçok farklı alanda karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu alanlar arasında; edebiyat, şiir, tiyatro, sanat gibi disiplinler arası birçok alan yer almaktadır. Doğu ve Batının ortak kültürel bir mirası olan sözlü veya yazılı anlatılar sanat eserlerinde ait oldukları coğrafi ve kültürel değerlerden de etkilenerek farklı dönemlerde birçok sanatçı tarafından tekrar yorumlanarak görsellere aktarılmıştır. Mitolojide birçok tanrı ve tanrıça yer almaktadır. Yunan Mitolojisine ait olan Pan çoban tanrısı sanat ortamında farklı zamanlarda birçok sanatçı tarafından farklı şekillerde ele alınmıştır. Çobanların ve sürülerin tanrısı olarak bilinen Pan, Yunan mitolojisinde yarı keçi yarı insan görünümüne sahip olarak tasvir edilmiştir. Pan’ın bu görüntüsü korkutucu ve ürkütücü bir tanrı olarak ifade edilmesine sebep olmuştur. Ayrıca efsanede Zeus, Hermes, Artemis, Argos gibi kahramanlar etkin rol almıştır. Pan, sanat eserlerinde efsanede geçen tasviri üzerinden yansıtılmış ve çoğu resimde Syrinx kahramanı ile birlikte kullanılmıştır. Pan’ı sanat eserlerine konu alan sanatçılar arasında; Peter Paul Rubens, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Filippo Lauri, François Boucher, Noel-Nicolas Coypel, Jacob Jordaens, Nicolas Poussin, Arnold Böcklin gibi birçok sanatçı yer almaktadır. Bu sanatçılar referans aldıkları Pan’ı kendi dönemlerine ait ışık-gölge, diyagonal biçimler, kompozisyon, renk, biçim ve kendilerine has üslupları içerisinde yorumlayarak yapıtlarına aktarmışlardır. Bu çalışmada, Yunan Mitolojisine ait Pan Tanrısı, resim sanatındaki sanatçılardan; Paul Rubens, Nicolas Poussin, François Boucher ve Jan Brueghel the Elder’in “Pan ve Syrinx” adlı eserleri üzerinden ele alınmıştır. Bu sanatçıların farklı zaman aralıklarında ele alarak oluşturdukları “Pan ve Syrinx” adlı yapıtların görsel anlatı dili, bu eserlerin ortak özellikleri ve bu eserleri birbirlerinden ayıran özellikler incelenmiştir. Ayrıca “Pan ve Syrinx” adlı eserler karşılaştırılarak içerik analizi yapılmış ve mitoloji efsanesi olan Pan’ın resim sanatındaki anlatılara olan yansıması araştırılmıştır.

Abstract
Mythology appears in many different fields from the past to the present as oral and written narratives. Among these areas; There are many interdisciplinary fields such as literature, poetry, theater and art. Oral or written narratives, which are a common cultural heritage of the East and the West, were influenced by the geographical and cultural values they belong to in the works of art, and were reinterpreted by many artists in different periods and transferred to visuals. There are many gods and goddesses in mythology. Pan, the shepherd god of Greek Mythology, has been handled in different ways by many artists at different times in the art environment. Known as the god of shepherds and herds, Pan is depicted in Greek mythology as half-goat, half-human. This image of Pan caused him to be expressed as a frightening and frightening god. In addition, heroes such as Zeus, Hermes, Artemis, Argos took an active role in the legend. Pan is reflected in the works of art through its depiction in the legend and is used with the hero of Syrinx in most of the paintings. Among the artists who use Pan as a subject for their works of art; There are many artists such as Peter Paul Rubens, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Filippo Lauri, François Boucher, Noel-Nicolas Coypel, Jacob Jordaens, Nicolas Poussin, Arnold Böcklin. These artists have translated the Pan they refer to in their works by interpreting them in light-shadow, diagonal forms, composition, color, form and their own unique style. In this study, the Pan God of Greek Mythology, one of the artists in the art of painting; It is discussed through the works of Paul Rubens, Nicolas Poussin, François Boucher and Jan Brueghel the Elder, named "Pan and Syrinx". The visual narrative language of the works named "Pan and Syrinx", which these artists created by considering them at different time intervals, the common features of these works and the features that distinguish these works from each other were examined. In addition, the content analysis was made by comparing the works named "Pan and Syrinx" and the reflection of the mythological legend Pan on the narratives in the art of painting was investigated.
