The Effects of Use of Creative Drama in Visual Arts Lessons in Primary Education on Students’ Achievement, Interest and Learning: A Study Carried Out at Meram Primary School

İlköğretim okullarında yaratıcı drama yönteminin görsel sanatlar eğitiminde kullanılmasının erişi, tutum ve kalıcılığa etkisi: Meram İlköğretim Okulu örneği
Eğitim bireyin davranışlarının ve düşüncelerinin değişikliğe uğrayarak gelişmesidir. Sanat eğitimi ise; Güzel sanatların tüm alanlarını içeren okul içi ya da okul dışı yaratıcı faaliyetlerdir ve genel eğitimde bilimsel eğitimi destekler niteliktedir. Sanat eğitiminde, çok çeşitli öğretim yöntemleri kullanılmaktadır. Konu anlatılarak ve uygulama yaptırılarak verilen bir sanat eğitimi günümüz şartlarında yetersiz kalmaktadır.
Batı dünyasında 1890’lı yıllardan bu yana farklı yöntemler denenmekte ve bu araştırmaya da konu olan drama yöntemi bir eğitim yöntemi olarak tercih edilmektedir. Ülkemizde ise 1980’ li yıllarla birlikte drama yöntemi üzerinde durulmaya başlanmıştır. Bunun yanında İlköğretim programlarına 1915-1917 arasında dramanın iki yıl kadar girdiği görülmektedir. Günümüzde drama yöntemi her geçen gün artan bir önem ve dikkatle eğitim öğretim hayatındaki yerini almaktadır. Yapılan çalışmada, “Görsel Sanatlar” dersi kapsamında, sanat eleştirisi konusunun öğrencilere verilmesinde uygulanan “yaratıcı drama” yönteminin “klasik” yönteme göre daha etkili ve daha kalıcı bir yöntem olduğu ortaya konmuştur. Ayrıca öğrencinin konu ile ilgili tutumlarında da “yaratıcı drama” yönteminin nispeten daha etkin olduğu görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak; “yaratıcı drama” yönteminin bir eğitim öğretim yöntemi olarak etkin bir şekilde kullanılması Türk Milli Eğitim sistemi için önemli bir gelişme olabilir.

Abstract
Education is the development of an individual’s behaviors and thoughts undergoing constant change. Art education entails all the creative activities within the scope of Fine Arts both in and outside school, and it supports in nature the scientific education. A variety of teaching methods have been used in art education, and a brief explanation of the subject followed by practice is now considered outdated and insufficient in contemporary art education. Different methods have been tried since 1890s in the Western world, and “drama” which is the focus of this study, has widely been preferred as a method of teaching. In our country, use of drama as a teaching method dates back to 1980s and before that it was part of the primary school curriculum for only two years between 1915-1917. Today, creative drama has been increasingly recognized as an important and effective method of instruction in the field of education. This study demonstrates that teaching of art criticism within the scope of Visual Arts lessons using “creative drama” is a more effective and successful method concerning students’ learning and interest in the subject matter compared to “traditional” teaching methods.
Consequently, effective use of “creative drama” as a method of instruction could be considered as an important development in Turkish national education system.
