Usage of Night Sky in Works of Art: Astrophotography

Gece Gökyüzünün Sanat Eserinde Kullanımı: Astrofotoğraf

Güneş, Ay ve yıldızlar gibi gökyüzü objelerinin tanımlanması, takip edilmesi ve kayıt altına alınması sonucunda, Dünya gezegeninin döngüsel süreçlerinin ortaya konulması uygarlığımızın temelinde yer alan uygulamalardandır. Tarih öncesinden günümüze kadar ulaşabilmiş kalıntıların dikkat çekici oranda, gökyüzü objeleri ve mevsimsel döngülerle ilgili olması; tarım, hayvancılık veya yaşamsal öneme sahip ihtiyaçların karşılanmasına yönelik olmasının yanında sanatsal üretim için de vazgeçilmez konumda olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Fotoğrafik görüntülerin kayıt altına alınmaya başlamasından sonra bilimin ve sanatın birçok çalışma alanı fotoğraftan etkilenmiştir. Astronomi de fotoğrafın icadıyla beraber, gözlem yapmanın yanında yeni bir araca kavuşmuştur. Gökyüzü objelerinin fotoğraflanması anlamını taşıyan astrofotoğraf yöntemi ortaya çıkmıştır. Erken dönemlerinde, bilimsel görüntüleme yöntemi olarak kullanılmasına rağmen, fotoğrafın gelişmesi ve yaygınlaşmasıyla beraber birçok sanatçının ilgisini çekmiştir. Bu çalışmada, teknik uygulamalar sonucunda elde edilen astrofotoğrafın günümüze kadar olan gelişim sürecindeki önemli noktalar ve modern fotoğraf sanatında astrofotoğrafın konumu incelenmiştir.

Abstract

Observing the cyclic process of our planet after identifying, tracking and recording objects like sun, moon and sky is one of the practices forming the base of our civilization. The prehistoric remnants that survived till today have significant relation to sky objects and seasonal cycles; exhibiting an essential status with an importance for fulfilling agriculture, husbandry and vital necessities as well as production of arts. After the recording of photographic images, many fields in science and arts were influenced by photography. Astronomy gained a new tool with the invention of photograph, in addition to observation. Astrophotography method came in sight, with a meaning of photographing sky objects. In the early era, it was used as a scientific imaging method, but with the progress and proliferation of photography, it caught the attention of many artists. The important points during the progress continuum where astrophotography is achieved after technical applications and the position of astrophotography in modern photography arts are the essence of this study.
