Denim ve Yaratıcı Dönüşüm: Çağdaş Sanat ve Sürdürülebilir Tasarımda Denimin Estetiği

Öz

Denim kumaş, dayanıklılığı ve çok yönlü kullanımı sayesinde tekstil endüstrisinin en popüler malzemelerinden biri haline gelmiştir. Ancak, üretim süreçlerindeki yüksek su tüketimi ve kimyasal kullanımının çevresel etkileri, sürdürülebilir tasarım ve sanat uygulamalarında denim kumaşının yeniden değerlendirilmesine yönelik bir ihtiyaç doğurmuştur. Bu makale, denim kumaşını yaratıcı dönüşüm süreçleriyle yeniden ele alarak sürdürülebilir sanat ve tasarım bağlamındaki estetik ve çevresel katkılarını incelemektedir. Ian Berry ve Faustine Steinmetz gibi uluslararası sanatçılarla birlikte Türkiye’den Deniz Sağdıç ve Hande Bilvar gibi sanatçıların da denime yenilikçi ve sürdürülebilir bir bakış açısıyla yaklaşan eserleri ele alınmıştır. Çalışma, bu sanatçıların hem çevresel bilinci artıran hem de kültürel ve sanatsal değerler yaratan projelerine odaklanmıştır. Denim kumaşıyla yapılan yenilikçi çalışmalarla estetik ve toplumsal mesajların yanı sıra çevre bilinci yaratmadaki rolleri ve kültürel etkileri değerlendirilmiştir. Makalede, denim kumaşın sanatsal ve işlevsel boyutlarının yanı sıra estetik bir araç olarak yeniden kullanımına odaklanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, denim kumaşın dönüştürülebilir bir malzeme olarak çağdaş sanat ve tasarımda sürdürülebilir bir gelecek yaratma potansiyeline sahip olduğu vurgulanmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın, sürdürülebilir tasarım ve sanat üzerine yapılan araştırmalara katkı sağlaması hedeflenmektedir.

Abstract

Denim and Creative Transformation: The Aesthetics of Denim in Contemporary Art and Sustainable Design

Denim fabric, known for its durability and versatility, has become one of the most popular materials in the textile industry. However, the environmental impact of its production processes, characterized by high water consumption and the use of chemicals, has created a need to reevaluate denim fabric within the context of sustainable design and artistic practices. This article explores the aesthetic and environmental contributions of denim through creative transformation processes in sustainable art and design. It examines the innovative and sustainable approaches to denim taken by international artists such as Ian Berry and Faustine Steinmetz, alongside Turkish artists like Deniz Sağdıç and Hande Bilvar. The study focuses on their projects, which not only raise environmental awareness but also create cultural and artistic value. The role of innovative works with denim in delivering aesthetic and societal messages, as well as their contributions to environmental consciousness and cultural impact, is analyzed. The article highlights the artistic and functional dimensions of denim fabric, emphasizing its reuse as an aesthetic medium. In conclusion, it underscores the potential of denim fabric, as a transformable material, to contribute to creating a sustainable future in contemporary art and design. This study aims to contribute to the growing body of research on sustainable design and art practices.
