KENT ÖĞELERİNDE DÖRDÜNCÜ BOYUT: ZAMANIN SESSİZ TANIĞI SAAT KULELERİ

Öz

İnsanların tarih boyunca ilgilendikleri en önemli mimari yapılar arasında yer alan “Saat Kuleleri” bir kent kültürü olarak, kent içinde dolaşan yayaların zamanı kolayca algılayabilmeleri için kent meydanlarına konuşlandırılan ve yine kolayca seçilebilecek büyüklükte bir saat/saatler ile donatılmış kule biçimindeki elemanlardır. Dünyanın pek çok yerinde saat kulelerinin simge yapılar olduğu görüşü hâkimdir. Bulunduğu kente dair taşıdığı izlerle hepsi birbirinden farklı ve eşsiz yapılar olan saat küllerinin en önemli ortak özelliği tarihe tanıklık etmeleridir. Farklı zamanlarda yapılan ve kentlerin simgesi olan bu eşsiz yapılar, tarihi ve kültürel bir miras olarak kabul edilmektedir. İlk olarak 13.yüzyılda Avrupa da yapılan ve dünyaya yayılan saat kuleleri mimari özellikleriyle de hayranlık uyandırmaktadır. Kentleri süsleyen bu eserler, buluşmaların adresi, yerli ve yabancı turistlerin uğrak yeri olarak her dönem sosyal hayatın da bir parçasıdır. Bu çalışmada bir kent öğesi olarak saat kulelerinin tarihsel gelişim süreci ve temel özellikleri ele alınırken üstlendikleri farklı misyonlar ve özellikleriyle seçilmiş iki saat kulesinin kent olgusuna katkısı detaylı olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bu amaçla, astronomik saat kulelerinin nadide örneklerinden biri olarak 600 yıllık Prag Saat Kulesi ve kent sembolü olarak 180 yıllık bir tarihe tanıklık etmiş dünyadaki bağımsız saat kulelerinin en eski örneklerinden biri olan Herne Bay Saat Kulesi seçilmiştir.\n\nAnahtar Kelimeler: Kentsel Öğeler, Kent Mobilyası, Saat, Saat Kulesi, Astronomik Saat, Prag Saat Kulesi, Herne Bay Saat Kulesi \n

Abstract

THE FOURTH DIMENSION IN CITY ELEMENTS: THE QUIET WITNESS OF TIME CLOCK TOWERS

Clock Towers”, which are among the most important architectural structures that people have been interested in throughout history, are considered as an urban culture. They are tower-shaped objects that are placed in public spaces and furnished with a clock or clocks of easily adjustable size to make it simple for people to tell the time as they move around the city. In many parts of the world, the view that clock towers are landmarks is dominant. The watch ashes' most crucial shared characteristic, which unites all of their distinctive and varied constructions with the remnants of the city in where they are located, is that they serve as historical witnesses. These unique structures, which were built at different times and are the symbols of cities, are accepted as a historical and cultural heritage Clock towers, which were first built in Europe in the 13th century and spread to the world, arouse admiration with their architectural features. These city decorations play an important role in social life at all times as meeting places and popular travel destinations for both domestic and international tourists. While discussing the historical development process and fundamental characteristics of clock towers as an urban element, this paper also evaluates in depth how two particular clock towers, each with unique missions and qualities, contributed to the urban phenomenon. For this purpose, the 600-year-old Prague Clock Tower, as one of the rarest examples of astronomical clock towers, and the Herne Bay Clock Tower, one of the oldest examples of independent clock towers in the world, which has witnessed a 180 -year history as a city symbol, were chosen.\nKeywords: Urban Elements, Urban Furniture, Hour, Clock tower, Astronomical Clock, Prague Clock Tower, Herne Bay Clock Tower\n
