Abstract
A Contemporary Ceramic Artist in the Context of Changing Museum Practices and Interactive Installations: Clare Twomey
With the post-modern society, changing perceptions and lifestyles have also shown themselves in the field of art. This change, which is reflected in the museum-gallery where the works of art are exhibited, has also affected the profiles of the artist, artwork, viewer-participant. Today's art trends, where installation, performance or interactive art applications are rapidly becoming widespread, have become projects that allow this change. The transition from the viewer, passive viewer to the active participant in the process, is an important reflection of all these changing dynamics. Adopting all these variables, British ceramic artist Clare Twomey; These three installations named “Trophy” (2006), “Forever” (2011) and “Exchange” (2013), each consisting of thousands of pieces, are discussed. Working in cooperation with curators working in museums, museum personnel and local producers, Twomey has brought many elements and values such as the rich history of ceramics, tradition, craft, art, mass production, social aid organizations, social responsibility, audience-participant, social media under one project. She is a contemporary artist worth considering in terms of performing integrated works that unite them. This understanding adopted by the artist, who analyzes the dynamics of the age she is in and produces interactive and participatory productions without ignoring the sensory and emotional side of the audience, constitutes the focus of the study. These installations, which center the audience through ceramics, an indispensable part of human life; It is planned as big projects and it is delivered to a large part of the public both one-on-one as well as being able to form a source for new studies to be made in terms of reaching them via social media.
