Contrabassoon is an instrument hidden in the orchestra. However, the contrabassoon ceased to be an element that only supports harmony and became a different color tool for composers in their works. Turkish and foreign composers sometimes hesitated to approach contrabassoon and never used it in their works or preferred to use it for a short time. After the historical development process, the contrabassoon starts to become forward and is preferred more by composers. Different sound colors are obtained from different sound areas and this diversity can be increased with some playing techniques. In this study, up-to-date information necessary for the use of the contrabassoon is given briefly and it is aimed to be a guide for composers and interested parties about its use in orchestra.
