Culture is a lifestyle that develops and changes in every period along with the thoughts, beliefs and values of society. Cultural diversity has affected many areas of life and caused differences. This interaction is intensely felt in traditional textiles in weaving. The ikat technique, which is known by many nations among weaving techniques, is the best example of the cultural diversity of weaving. Ikat fabrics produced with different techniques in different geographies have changed according to the regions with their unique beauty. The general purpose of the article is to examine the development of ikat weaving in the world. In the method of the study, the scanning model was used and basic terms and concepts related to ikat weaving, classification of ikat weaving, production methods, motif composition color features and ikat weaving according to regions are explained. As a result of the literature review, it has been seen that ikat weaving is applied in more than one country. "Pathola" made with double ikat technique in Patola region of Finland, abra fabrics woven with warp ikat technique in Bukhara region of Uzbekistan, weft ikat fabrics in Cambodia, weft yarns applied with waist-tied looms in Indonesia, warp yarns "minsaa", widths are narrow and lengths are long, woven in the state of Okinawa in Japan and in Turkey ikat fabrics woven in Gaziantep as "kutnu", in Istanbul and Rize woven ikat fabrics named "keşan". Ikat weaving is an important background in Turkey however that occupies a very small space in the international literature. In addition, the similarities of the fabrics exhibited under the name "Mashru" in world museums with the kutnu fabrics in terms of technique, pattern and composition draw attention. Therefore; In Turkey, which is part of the culture woven ikat weaving technique for the development of the field work is required. Publishing the findings in international academic language will contribute to the survival and awareness of ikat weaving technique.
