The subject of this study is the leading female artists in the art of Turkish printmaking and their contribution to printmaking.
Printmaking is a unique branch of art that is printed and enumerated in limited number of patterns prepared by the artist himself or herself. In our country, studies were made with wood, metal and lithography techniques before the Republic. However, the development of the art of printmaking in our country has been with the Republic. Artistic productions emerged with the art education institutions opened after the establishment of the Republic. In this period, a large number of artists were sent abroad for training within the scope of innovation movements. After these artists return home, they work with great dedication to create and develop the infrastructure of the art of printmaking. Thanks to the efforts of these artists who chose printmaking as their specialized field, the art of Turkish printmaking has reached national and international recognition today. In this process, our female and male artists worked together with dedication.
The aim of this study is to investigate the contributions of the prominent female artist who were recognized with their female identity in the development of Turkish art of printmaking. The study is limited to the contributions of Aliye Berger, Nevide Gökaydın and Mürşide İçmeli to the art of printmaking.
