1544387854 ANATOLIA TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE IN REFLECTING VIEW TO ENGRAVINGS AT TRAVEL BOOKS WRITTEN BY WESTERN PEOPLE

Upon invention of printing, number of written and printed books was increased and this case makes gain a new aspect to the images and imagination methods in those books. “Engraving” is defined to process an image on a wood, stone or metal plate through engraving and printing this on a surface so engraving has been positioned in a different position. Those images which are made through engraving method became integral part of travel books that begun to print in fifteenth century even the books became known in name of engraving artists having engraving images in the book. Also it has been an evidencing, documenting tool until invention of camera.

In the period beginning from century 15 to century 19, Anatolia Traditional Architectural examples as images included in travel books occurred as a result of travels to Eastern and Ottoman lands, written by tradesmen, ambassadors, artists like Charles Pertusier, Joseph Pitman De Tournefort, Antonie Ignace Melling, M. François Preault, Charles Texier, Thomas Allom, William Henry Bartlett and travelers like Corneille Bruyn, Guillaume Joseph Grelot, Cornelius Loos, Jean Baptiste Hilair in engraving method in this study had been examined.

Building materials, Architectural works and building features occurred under various geographic conditions of various regions of Anatolia have been selected as subject of the research as an original language in the plastic frame of painting art. The oldest image samples of Anatolian Traditional Architecture are seen at engraving of travel books belong to centuries XV – XIX according to data occurred as result of literature scanning and qualitative research method. It is thought that this study is important regarding to setting forth the aspects of today artists who are trying to create an original language in Modern Turkish Painting about Anatolian Traditional Architecture and using of possibilities presented by this architecture. At the same time, it is thought that commenting of the artists referring to their composition and fiction while getting benefit from Anatolian Traditional Architecture and getting together such date will provide contribution to determine position of architectural tradition in modern art.
