1505825608 A SHARED STUDY ON CONSERVING THE CULTURAL HERITAGE “MEZİTLİ TEXTILE PROJECT”

We will focus our study on Mezitli Textile Project launced under the conservation and maintenance of the textile industry, a traditional example of textile which still survives today, in Mersin (İçel) Mezitli District, It is found according to the information obtained in line with the history of the region, archeological findings, museum samples and area research that Mersin (İçel)-Mezitli is one of the archaic textile centres. We the representative of the Textile Department, Faculty of Arts, Mersin University, held some talks with the competent authorities in respect to the maintenance of textile industry, one of the cultural accumulations of Anatolia, in the region and transfer it to the next generations, and therefore we signed a protocol with both the Municipality of Mezitli and Mezitli Soroptomist Club which helped us launch the project. Offering textile training to women is considered essential in this project in order to conserve and maintain the textile industry. Following the participation of women who were interested in the subject, provision of location, purchase of looms-supplies and determination of training subjects, the first textile training , which is the first leg of the project, was completed between November 2017 and June 2017. This study shall focus on the start and levels of the project, training period, technical information and supplies and revival of the textile industry, which is regarded as a cultural heritage, in the region along with women’s training and employment.
