Contemporary glass art carries the legacy of the transformation brought about by the studio glass movement that emerged in the 1960s. Today, this legacy continues to evolve as a dynamic artistic field centered on multidisciplinary approaches and hybrid aesthetic experiences. Contemporary glass artists transcend traditional boundaries by combining glass with different materials and disciplines, developing new forms of expression. Here, “multidisciplinary” refers to the holistic integration of techniques, concepts, and perspectives from other art forms with glass. In contrast, “hybrid aesthetic experiences” define the unique production forms that emerge from these interactions. Incorporating technology into contemporary glass art constitutes an essential dimension of the multidisciplinary approach. Methods such as 3D printing, neon techniques, and digital and virtual technologies have provided artists with the opportunity to create works of previously unimaginable complexity and precision. Additionally, glass has become an increasingly common interactive material in architectural spaces, large-scale installations, performance, and fashion. The unique relationship glass establishes with light and space enables artists to create sensory environments that draw the viewer in. Through hybrid aesthetic experiences, glass art gains new layers of meaning at the material, technical, and conceptual levels. The fragility, transparency, and interaction of glass with light, combined with different materials and disciplines, create rich visual, tactile, and intellectual content. Thus, the resulting hybrid applications invite the viewer to a multifaceted interaction not only on an aesthetic but also on a philosophical and sensory level. This study emphasizes the importance of multidisciplinary approaches and hybrid aesthetic experiences in contemporary glass art, aiming to provide a framework for understanding the transformation of the field through the artists and works that pioneered these trends.
