1768165590 THE AESTHETIC AND CONCEPTUAL ROLE OF PORCELAIN IN MINIMALIST INSTALLATION ART

Art has undergone a continuous evolution shaped by social, cultural, and technological transformations. The processes of industrialization and modernization have profoundly redefined the concept of art, the functionality of art objects, and the relationship between the artwork and the viewer. With the emergence of contemporary art, movements such as minimalism and installation art have diverged from traditional artistic approaches, establishing new aesthetic and conceptual frameworks. Minimalism aims to distill the art object to its essence through simple forms and unadorned compositions, while installation art emphasizes the significance of space and materials within the artistic context. In this framework, the incorporation of industrial materials and found objects into art has become a significant approach that expands both the conceptual and physical boundaries of art. Porcelain has emerged as a prominent material in minimalist installation art due to its artistic quality, texture, and formal flexibility. Porcelain objects integrated with minimalist forms enhance artistic expression through their spatial harmony and positioning within the composition. The delicacy, whiteness, and translucency of porcelain contribute to a conceptually rich narrative when aligned with minimalist aesthetics. This article examines the aesthetic and conceptual functions of porcelain objects in minimalist installation art. It discusses how minimalist artistic approaches establish a new artistic language through the use of porcelain, exploring the material’s role within the artistic context. Furthermore, the relationship between porcelain and minimalist installations—both in terms of form and material—is evaluated as a distinctive method of artistic expression. The discussion is supported with specific examples from selected artist practices.
