This article examines how the element of line, beginning with its historical origins in painting, has evolved into an original style within contemporary Turkish art. Since the cave paintings, line has occupied a fundamental position in art history as a primary means of visual expression; over time, it has transcended its role as a mere formal tool and transformed into a mode of intellectual expression. The artist’s mode of production is shaped by the intellectual framework, ideological environment, and personal characteristics of the era in which they live, and line has become a decisive component of this creative process. Among the artists who foreground linear elements in contemporary Turkish art are Devrim Erbil, Ayhan Çetin, Şinasi İşler, Reyhan Uludağ, and Nevres Akın. What unites these artists is their use of line as the central element of painting, through which they establish a distinctive visual style. Equally significant is the academic identity of these artists, which enables them to transmit their chosen linear style to future generations. Their role as educators allows them to play an effective part in ensuring the continuity of line as a visual language. The article argues that linearity has been adopted as a new stylistic approach in contemporary Turkish art and foresees that the artists who sustain this approach will secure a lasting position within art history.
