In this study, Bolu/Mengen socks, a traditional hand-knitted sock sample, were examined. As it was observed that these socks were not knitted very often outside of being a dowry product, a design-based research was conducted with the aim of ensuring their cultural sustainability. Using the Design-Based Research method, the motif and decoration layout plans of the socks were analysed using Excel on 10 products, and pattern reports were created. Using the EAT Design Scope Victor Jacquard and Photoshop CS 6 digital design programmes, the pattern reports were stylised, and textile fabric patterns were designed using contemporary forms. While preserving the cultural identity of traditional art with the designs created, the patterns were transformed into fabrics that could be used in contemporary home textiles trends. The designs, which were made into garments, were presented as the ‘Family Heirloom Homes’ collection, consisting of home textile products with ‘classic and modern’ forms. With this approach, handicrafts have been enabled to continue their existence as a symbol of cultural identity with contemporary trends, while preserving their value in Turkish culture. The study concludes by emphasising the importance of social belonging and offering recommendations.
