1739700796 INNOVATIVE GLAZES DEVELOPED IN SODA FIRING

Glaze refers to the mixture obtained by mixing more than one ceramic raw material in certain proportions and adding water in the same proportion and the glassy layers formed in fired ceramic bodies. Glaze, whose main raw material is silica, is one of the materials widely used in the fields of industry and ceramic art. The use of glaze in the context of both industry and art serves different purposes. In the historical process, glazes with new colours, textures and glossiness to be applied on the body in ceramic art have been researched. "Soda Glazes", which minimise environmental pollution while creating artistic effects on ceramic surfaces, constitute the main subject of this study. These researches have led to the emergence of innovations in ceramic art. Soda firing is an alternative firing technique used in the history of ceramic art and glaze researches are carried out with the results of this technique. In this study, soda firing glazes, their history, kiln characteristics and new glaze recipes developed are discussed. As a result of the findings, new glazes with soda effect have been obtained by applying glaze on ceramic bodies in soda firing and important contributions have been made to the literature on this subject.
