Nurullah Berk (1904-1982) is one of the pioneers of Turkish painting, known for his artworks and writings on art. The artist participated in workshops of important painters, influenced by cubism and constructivism, he played significant roles in the “Association of the Independent Painter and Sculptors” and the “Group D”. This study aims to explore the thematic representation of female figures in Berk’s paintings. A qualitative research approach was utilized, with document analysis as the data collection method. The research data comprises 11 of his paintings. The study is divided into three sections: the first examines Berk’s life, artistic philosophy and the art groups he was involved in; the second assesses the perception of women during his era; and the final section analyzes the selected paintings, identifying two main axes for evaluation: the representation of women in the context of Republican ideology and the reflection of traditional orientalist elements in miniature schema.
