1736140719 THE ROLE OF TIBETAN BUDDHIST CHANTS IN RITUALS AND SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

The study titled “The Role of Tibetan Buddhist Chants in Rituals and Practices” explores the profound significance of chants in Tibetan Buddhism and emphasizes their multifaceted roles within rituals and spiritual practices. Deeply embedded in the cultural and spiritual fabric of Tibetan society, these chants reflect a rich tradition that intertwines religious practice with everyday life. Often referred to as mantras, Tibetan Buddhist chants serve not only as instruments of devotion but also as powerful tools for meditation, healing, and communal harmony. The study adopts a qualitative ethnographic approach to understand the significance of Tibetan Buddhist chants in rituals and spiritual practices. This method was chosen to capture the cultural, spiritual, and contextual meanings of chants within the tradition. The importance of Tibetan Buddhist chants extends beyond mere vocalization. They constitute an integral component of a broader ritual framework that includes meditation, visualization, and the enactment of Buddhist teachings. Chants facilitate transformative experiences for practitioners, enabling them to embody the qualities of the deities they invoke. Investigating the role of chants in Tibetan Buddhist rituals and practices is thus vital for understanding their spiritual, cultural, and therapeutic dimensions. It sheds light on their enduring relevance and their ability to connect individuals to both ancient traditions and contemporary mindfulness practices. The study addresses several key aspects, including the cultural and spiritual preservation of chants, their psychological and healing effects, their global relevance, interdisciplinary significance, and the traditional methods used in their performance, transmission, and preservation. It also provides examples of notable chants. By examining their roles in rituals and practices, the research explores how Tibetan Buddhist chants function as instruments of devotion, mindfulness, and cultural resilience. In this context, the study investigates the role of chants in rituals, their spiritual impacts, and mechanisms of cultural transmission, offering a new perspective to fields such as Tibetan Buddhism, musicology, psychology, and anthropology. By adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the study aims to contribute to academic literature while also demonstrating the applicability of this knowledge in practical fields. These contributions pave the way for further research in both academic and applied contexts, enhancing our understanding of the place and impact of Tibetan Buddhist chants in the contemporary world.
