Although protest is generally seen as a form of expression that is characterized by patterns such as marches, rallies and press releases, it also uses alternative methods that increase its creative and protest content. Throughout history, artistic language has functioned not only as a means of individual expression but also as a powerful agent of social change. In the context of social resistance and protest, art creates a creative sphere of influence. In this context, the relationship between art and protest goes beyond traditional methods and creates an effective language of expression. Based on this relationship, puppetry as a form is among the strong examples of protest art. Collectives such as the 'Bread and Puppet Theater', which is the subject of this study, have turned puppetry into a form of expression for social criticism rather than a means of entertainment. The study is qualitative in terms of type and content. Document analysis method was used as the data collection method for the study. In addition to the existing printed sources, the data obtained were supported by internet documents and a literature review was conducted. In this research, various processes in the historical development of puppetry and the concept of protest are discussed. In this article, where descriptive research method is used, the relationship between puppetry and protest, which is elaborated based on the example of Bread and Puppet Theater, has been made concrete. Puppetry has been used as an effective tool in many fields from anti-war movements to struggles for environmental justice and gender equality. The use of artistic methods has not only been a form of expression in protests, but has also undertaken the task of publicizing social demands to large masses and creating collective consciousness. This study is an academic contribution that aims to explain the relationship between puppetry and protest through examples.
