1729016639 FROM GRAPHIC DESIGN TO PRODUCT: AN ANALYSIS OF THE PRINT ON DEMAND BUSINESS MODEL FOR DESIGNERS

Today, the working areas of graphic designers are quite wide. Graphic design, which is needed in every field of visual communication, is needed in very different business environments, from advertising agencies to game companies, from new media channels to desktop publishing areas. However, it can be said that the number of freelance graphic designers is increasing day by day. It is seen that the print-on-demand business model is becoming increasingly popular for graphic designers who want to work freelance or want to earn a passive income, and even for all creative minds working in different art and design disciplines. This research examines the print-on-demand business model that has emerged with the development of graphic production techniques and digital printing technologies in the context. It is investigated how any individual who produces works in different art and design disciplines, especially graphic design discipline, with digital printing methods, which is one of the graphic production techniques, can benefit from this business model by using their works or digital data of their works. In this direction, it is conveyed how graphic designers and any individual who produces works in accordance with digital printing technologies can generate income through printing on demand and how they can deliver their designs as physical products to all over the world in a wide range of products. The study is a descriptive study created for the purpose of determining the situation. The data used in the research were revealed by the literature review method and all the evaluated data were interpreted subjectively. The research was written to be a guide for graphic designers who want to benefit from this business model and to draw attention to the importance of entrepreneurship in all art and design disciplines.
