1715593751 A CONTEMPORARY CERAMIC ARTIST: JUN KANEKO

In the formation of humanity, many needs have emerged throughout life. The effort to meet these needs has been made by bringing together materials found in nature. It was known that ceramics, which is accepted to have started with the Neolithic period, consisted of pottery made only for the purpose of meeting daily needs. However, over time, ceramics has gained a strong and solid place within the field of plastic arts, just like painting and sculpture. Ceramics, which progressed in simple and mass production until the Industrial Revolution, developed a different perspective after the Industrial Revolution and created its own unique expression language. Especially in ceramic art, which is included in the formation of Contemporary Art, many works have been produced, from sculptures consisting of abstract forms to wall panels and produced with different techniques and materials. Jun Kaneko, who is of Japanese origin and continues his artistic life in America, has been accepted as a ceramic artist who has managed to attract attention with the unique form and artistic approach he creates within the field of ceramics. Jun Koneko's ceramic sculptures and ceramic wall panel applications, especially those named "Tanuki" and "Dango", are considered a cornerstone in Contemporary Ceramic Art. Koneko, who created his ceramic works with his assistants during the production phase in his own studio, which was previously used as a brick factory, carried the eastern and western motifs he used in his works to a universal dimension.
