The research is a study to analyse Rembrandt's important technique in the art of engraving, chiaroscuro. It aims to examine the chiaroscuro technique in Rembrandt's engravings with its basic principles, how he worked with this technique and how he used it in his works. Rembrandt is recognised as one of the most important artists of the 17th century and is known for his mastery of the technique of engraving. Chiaroscuro refers to the creation of three-dimensional images using the dramatic effect of light and shadow. It is used extensively in works of art as a powerful tool to create depth and emotional intensity for the viewer. In the use of light and shadow, one of the most prominent features of the Baroque period, Rembrandt used chiaroscuro to emphasise the depth and drama he captured in his engravings. This technical mastery in Rembrandt's engravings reflects his artistic versatility and visual expressiveness. This research discusses the basic principles of chiaroscuro in Rembrandt's engravings and examines examples of Rembrandt's use of this technique in his engravings. This research has been carried out through works of art using the method of document analysis, which is a type of qualitative research. As a result, it is believed that this study will contribute to a deeper understanding of the chiaroscuro technique, which is an important turning point, by highlighting its importance in art history through the examination of Rembrandt's engravings.
