1702318137 FROM TYPOGRAPY TO SYMBOL A REVIEW ON INSTALLATION (SPACE FITTINGS) AFTER THE ISTANBUL BIENNIAL

Installation art means the arrangement and design of works of art within a specific space. This form of art aims to enable the viewer to interact with the work and have spatial experiences by wandering around the space. Artists create original and temporary works using the architecture, light and texture of the space. Typography is the art of designing, arranging and arranging typefaces. Typography enables texts to be presented in a visually aesthetic and semantically impressive way. Elements such as letter shapes, punctuation, sizes and colors are the basic elements of typography. The combination between installation art and typography allows spatial expression and the art of lettering to come together to create a powerful synergy. This combination makes the viewer have an experience not only visually, but also by wandering around the space, making them feel and think. Installation artists communicate with the space itself by using typographic elements along with spatial elements. Texts integrated into walls, floors or installation elements enrich the atmosphere of the space and have the potential to tell a specific story to the viewer. There are many different venues for installations, one of the most important of which is biennials. In the study, a situation analysis was made and the spatial fictions and typographic arrangements of the 17th Istanbul Biennial, which was held in 2022, were textualized by associating them.
