1673379857 FIBER ART IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABILITY AND ITS REFLECTIONS ON CONTEMPORARY ART PRACTICES

Throughout history, weaving has held an important place in the cultural structure of societies as both a functional and artistic form of expression. It especially stands out with its Turkish weaving tradition, historical heritage and artistic value. Although the relationship of weaving with nature weakened with the industrial revolution, contemporary artists have adopted sustainability principles and developed environmentally friendly production methods with recycled materials, natural fibers and digital technologies. This article explores how the concept of sustainability is reflected in contemporary art practices, with a particular emphasis on fiber art. As environmental concerns are becoming increasingly significant in artistic production, traditional materials are being replaced by natural, recycled, or environmentally conscious alternatives. Due to its inherent openness to handcraft, transformation, and material sensitivity, fiber art plays a crucial role in this shift. The article examines how the principle of sustainability is interpreted through fiber art, its historical development, and its interaction with contemporary art through the practices of modern artists.
