Contrabassoon is the lowest instrument in woodwind section in double-reed family. If the history, structure and playing techniques of this instrument are understood correctly, it easily becomes a means of artistic expression for both the composer and the performer. With the developing technology, the modern contrabassoon is not just an orchestra member in the world and many composers are using it as a soloist instrument. The increasing interest of our Turkish composers in this instrument and the emergence of new works reveal different difficulties in terms of playing techniques. According to many other instruments that can play as soloists, contrabassoon has variable playing techniques according to the year of production, brand, different models of the same brand and various reed sizes. In this article, brief information was given about the contrabassoon, the work named Kars by Önder Özkoç was examined and suggestions were made about the playing techniques needed in the work. The aim of this study was to draw attention to the use of the contrabassoon as a soloist, and it is aiming help to perform In case the work named Kars is desired to perform.
