1567430417 ART INPUBLIC SPACES AS PART OF RELATIONAL AESTHETICS

Public spaces are common life and social event places where people spend time, commune with each other and mold public opinion in their daily lives. Therefore, artworks created for public spaces have a dimension of opinion that goes beyond the contemporary discourse and artistic application area. This is because artworks created for public spaces go beyond being a commodity that can only be exhibited in museums and similar places for limited audiences, and they have a relational and multidimensional structure that relates to the public’s daily life, and can be created and examined commonly. The relational connection of different art practices in contemporary art have started to be examined using the concept of relational aesthetics concept, which emerged at the beginning of the twenty-first century. This study aimed to describe the humanitarian, community-oriented and relational aspects of artworks created for public spaces. It tries to explain and interpret the relational aesthetics of artworks that people created together with artists for the places where they live, and artworks placed in public spaces by artists to interact with society. In accordance with this objective, this study is a descriptive survey. Resources were obtained as a result of a literature review, and works by artists who are associated with relational aesthetics were selected. Some sections of selected foreign resources were translated and used in parts of this study. Artworks created in public spaces that reflect an understanding of relational aesthetics are examined in this framework.
