In this article, interpretations will be made on Tehching Hsieh's first three works from a total of five works named 'One-Year Performance'. The performances of the artist, when compared to the works of the artists that came earlier, are quite noteworthy due to their radicality. He questioned concepts such as freedom, ownership, coexistence, time, security and loneliness with long-term performances. Hsieh's performances can be read as radical rather than narrative performances since they are not based on a spectation, observation or participation. The durations of the performances covers a rather long time such as a year. Hsieh said "Life is a life sentence." and he questioned the limits of the sanctions and conditions of life on human beings by the performances he restructured within the framework of his own limits and conditions.
