1514498063 FROM APPROPRIATION TO POSTPRODUCTION: THE YASUMASA MORIMURA EXAMPLE

ABSTRACT
Appropriation art or in other words the art of arrogating to oneself, is not just a copying technique. It is possible that, the appropriation which was made from an original work of art may be re-genuine or original when it is filtered by the artist's identity and his genuine ideas. This process and the resulting art which has become increasingly widespread in contemporary art is called postproduction by French art theorist Nicholas Bourriaud. In this work, the Japanese artist Yasumasa Morimura's important works have been examined and interpreted in terms of context, form and the differences between his works and the originals which were reproduced by the artist, in order to show how the postproduction process works in practice.

Keywords: Appropriation, original, postproduction, contemporary art.
