1533410436 BULL FIGURINE IN ANCIENT PERIOD MYTHOLOGIE TO UNDERSTAND THE BULL’S HORNS UNEARTED AT CATALHOYUK

In known human history, god figure is symbolized in various forms such as human, plant, mountain, mixture of human and animal till the era of monotheistic religions. Bull figures-god symbols which are thought to be realated with religious beliefs, are among the archaeological remains that helps to understand pre-historic times. The research theme of this study is, whether the Horn and bull heads unearthed at the excavations at Çatalhöyük have a religious meaning or not is. The general belief is that the bull horns have a religious meaning. To support this idea, a need has arisen to inquire the civilizations close to Çatalhöyük, whether they have similar beliefs or not. To provide a solid foundation the ancient civilizations are examined. These civilizations are limited to ancient civilizations of Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Hittite and Greek which can interact culturally with trade, migration and political events. Selected materials for the research are related books, journal articles, dictionaries and reliefs, seals and paintings that have archaeological value. As a result of the research, the horn cult was found to be coming to the fore among the selected civilizations and also similar in terms of symbolic meanings. Identified similarities are verified by comparing mythological narratives and visual descriptions. With reference to the connection established between the bull cults of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Hittite, Greek civilizations and Çatalhöyük, it is anticipated that the bull cult was very ancient being. Çatalhöyük bull horns which were among the first religious objects are determined to symbolize the divine.
