Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky who is Russian ingenious composer in the Romantic Era, has an artistic framework which is based on Russian culture and consisted of delicately processed its themes and contents. Also he had combined the richness and colorfulness with dramatic musical elements in music genres such as symphony, concerto, chamber music and ballet. Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto is remarkable, in terms of the orchestration, pianistic texture and also musical technique and sensibility adorned with superior artistik touches between the piano and orchestra, at the piano literature and pianists’ repertoire. When it is consired to be included at the educational programmes of classical concervatories of our country and its place of the piano literature, it can be considered as an important necessity the historical backgorund and musical analysis of Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto. When academic studies are examined, it is seen that studies and resources related to Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto are very limited. This study aims to the musical analysis and historical background of Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto. The movements of Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto examined as musical form and then discussed its certain remarkable sections with structural and musical materials.
