1490614132 INTERMEDIA FROM NASREDDİN HODJA’S JOKES TO NASREDDİN HODJA’S CARICATURES

Nasreddin Hodga jokes, as narrations of superior humorous mind, have influenced and shaped people’s humor understanding for centuries. The fact that they have enriched or lessened at times through interaction with the humor understanding of people have enabled those narrations to maintain their presence so far. Both the jokes within literature and caricatures under the category of plastic arts are considered mediums in the sense that they stand “in the middle”. Hence jokes are generally present in each developmental stages of medias. Human medium as narration (primary medium), written and press media as written and visual texts (secondary media), film and cartoons (tertiary media), digital media such as computers, internet, social platforms as quaternary media. It is possible to see such a process in Nasreddin Hodja’s jokes. Firstly, they are narrated among people and then written as texts of jokes and caricatures in newspapers, magazines and books. Due to the wide spread use of television, those jokes via cartoons, animations and advertisements penetrate extensively into the lives of people. Lastly, transmitting of those stories on internet provides them social media platforms.Nasreddin Hodja jokes are often shared and spread in the form of caricatures on social media platforms that are labelled as the virtual areas of today. As a matter of art of caricature, less words and more defining visual effects are prepared and presented contrary to Nasreddin Hodja’s jokes. Those presented visual media productions have become more functional today than jokes.
