1468498388 AS MYTHOS BECOMES THE CURRENT HISTORY…

Old societies used to express and pass on their own histories through myths. In the societies where writing didn’t exist yet, there used to be a history telling easy to memorize in the forms of oral expression such as chants and poems, songs and ballads and thus it would be passed on from generations to generations. In the contemporary history, though, it is being collected and piled in digital lines and a virtual universe. Deluge, Sacrifice and Karbala myths have left deep signs in the Middle East and Mesopotamia where wars and devastations have been taking place continually. The images and photos that we come across on media everyday reminds us of this myths again and because of the meaning they bear, they leave traumatic impacts on people’s minds. This study will focus on the topics in question accompanied with Claude Levi-Strauss’s ‘Myth and Meaning’ and Martin Heidegger’s ‘Being and Time’ accompanied with the visuals from the contemporary history. The distinction between myths and history can be understood only through regarding and researching myths as a continuation of history rather than discriminating between the two.
