1354790975 REFLECTION OF CLASSICISM İN POSTMODERN TIMES: POSTMODERN REVIEWS UPON TO PICTURES BELONGING TO THE PERIOD OF CLASSICISM

In the field of art, postmodernism, which develops original and unique perspectives and new concepts/theories, emerges as a critical attitude regardless of movement, period, and style differences. The critical attitude of postmodernism is formed not by destroying existing values, like in the modernism case, but mostly by combining, modifying, transforming them, and developing new discourses. Postmodernism has a pluralist understanding; and Classicism came to do the fore once again through the connection that postmodernism formed and developed between past and future. On the other hand, it is hard to claim that Classicism has the same values with the past. In this sense Classicism which was brought to today, is re-interpreted according to today’s socio-economical, political, and cultural conjuncture.
In this study the problem of the research was discussed within the process of postmodernism and analyzed by elaborating repercussions of Classicism on art, artist, and work of art. The study aimed to highlight new concepts and theories of neo-Classicism within postmodernism.
Qualitative research methods including general survey model and literature review and analysis of work of art as data collection tool were applied in this study. Within the framework of this study, it was targeted to reach various and original resources. The conceptual framework of this study was designed in a form that would support and integrate the findings and interpretations. The images of this study were selected among the most prominent and striking samples that would depict the article. Reference books and periodicals were generally preferred for the sake of credible references; interactive resources were only used for visual elements.
