1353677927 SCREEN FONT USABILITY

ABSTRACT
Since the invention of writing and it’s development in ancient times, information has been presented to the user in various forms and print media. Following the 20th century, submission of data to the user occurred via the screen. Up to our day, fonts have been designed in varied size and scales, in accordance with our needs, by taking certain typographical rates into consideration. Fonts are now presented to the user in two different settings; on the screen and on the printed material.
In many areas of our daily lives, we have encountered different fonts. Web sites, books, journals and articles, television, kiosk machines, mobile phones, mp3 players, movies, electronic billboards, calculators, electronic watches, computers, electronic speed indicators are all the fields in which fonts are necessarily used. This study tries to gain an insight to what the screen font is, which typefaces are designed specifically for on-screen reading, have an effect upon the usability and compares these fonts with printing fonts in terms of usability.
