ABSTRACT
There are lots of words about the “sound” concept in Azerbaijan Turkish.
There is not any consistent study on neither etymology nor the first sample of old and new information relations of these words .Actually, some image words related to sound was examined; however, there are hundreds of words that are not related to image words are linked to sound. These words underwent a long formation stage, exposed to semantic changes and turned into phonetic variants. Therefore, traditional pioneers of the modern Turcology are unable to clarify the initial formations or their variants close to these formations of these kinds of words that underwent various changes.
In this study, not the whole roots related to the “sound” concept but just the “gu” root has been based and other roots have been used as auxiliaries. For example, it is remarkable that –ğır~ -yür affixes in bağırmağ, böyürmek words from *bo root and –ğır affix in çağır, çığır words from gu root have the same function, namely it is the –gır affix that is used while forming image words of integrated root.
