1684934991 MODERN DESING CLOTHES AND BAGS UPON ‘GYPSY GIRL’ MOSAIC WHICH IS ON DISPLAY AT ZEUGMA MOSAIC MUSEUM

In different geographies, it is seen that quite different artefacts have emerged due to different beliefs and lifestyles. The artefacts made with mosaic technique are one of them. It is seen that mosaic works are made of various materials such as stone, glass, brick and ceramic. Mosaic is one of the most important works of art that have survived to the present day since its emergence. Within the scope of the article in which the use of mosaic, which is a building material, in garment design is chosen as the subject; depending on the literature and documentation scanning, the floor mosaic, which is one of the artefacts of the ancient city of Zeugma, located within the borders of Gaziantep province, called 'Gypsy Girl' among the people, but originally named 'Menad', was examined. Today, it is seen that the mosaic is used by museums by printing on souvenirs such as cups, coasters, key rings, magnets, notebooks and shawls, but it is not used much on clothing items, which are textile products. The aim of this study is to increase the visibility of the mosaic in daily life, to help revive a forgotten tradition and to show its importance. Within the scope of the purpose, contemporary product designs were made based on the mosaic of 'Menad', also known as 'Gypsy Girl', located in the ancient city of Zeugma. Gypsy girl mosaic was used as an ornament and two of the designs were selected and garments were obtained.
