This study focuses on the different design formations of the letter that is one of the most important elements used in poster design. With the development of visual communication and typographic understanding, the letters used in the poster design have begun to get new forms. The design and use of new typeface has always been an issue in visual communication. However, the aim of this study is to analyze the posters in which the letter is used as an image contrary to the use of a ready-made font in poster design. Although the tradition of designing letters with various images goes back to the ancient times, to use this attitude in poster design is a new idea. Some of the contemporary graphic designers are looking for new perspectives in the design by combining letters and images in their posters. This concept of design, rarely seen in the historical development of poster design (imaginary letter design), has an effective communication power in the target audience as long as it is related to the content. At this point, while the illustrative letters provide the audience a clear explanation about the content, it also gives a strong and new visual experience. Over time, the letter has become an essential element in the poster design.
