1502108575 MEASURING THE CHROMATICS KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENTS, HAVING TAKEN A DESIGN COURSE and THE AWARENESS ON THE ROLE OF COLOR IN COMMUNICATION

The design has an importance for various fields. As being aware of this importance of design, the courses on design are included in the curricula of different fields. Within the frame of this study, the chromatics knowledge and awareness on the role of color in the communication of the students, who had taken at least one course on graphic design, were studied. It is known that color has a great role for a design to achieve its goal. Color has a physiological and psychological impact on people, on its own. Therefore, color is very effective in bringing the messages of designs to the audience and affect people’s choices. Color helps to transfer the message of a design to the target audience and affecting the audience's choices. Colors affect people both mentally and emotionally, in parallel with sub-consciousness, cultural transfer, and the acquisitions from experience. Therefore it has an active role in realizing the phases of attitude creating, which is one of the most important elements of the decision-making processes of the target audience, and then enacting. Although colors present differences between cultures, regarding the given meanings, they confront us as an effective element in communication. Under the light of the data, gathered in the research, the deficiencies of the students, having taken a design course in different disciplines, in the chromatics were found. However much they think that its role in communication is important, it is predicted that they cannot communicate correctly with the target audience because of the deficiencies in chromatics In general, despite correctly understanding the connotations of colors, deficiency in the knowledge of chromatics displays that they cannot create a design by preferring colors reliably.
