One of the most important components for clarifying the genre specialties of legends is their functions. Because all of the folklore products have a certain function inside the social structure, especially they take an important role in providing cultural continuity. Turkmen legends also undertake the functions such as advising and transferring the folk’s world view, customs, and perception of morality to younger generations. Like all Turkish communities, Turkmen consider “homeland” as a holy treasure; protecting it and providing its permanence are the fundamental duties of every individual. Otherwise, individual gets punished funereally.
