Mesud Cemil is one of the most important cellists who succeeded Tanbûrî Cemil Bey in the XXth century Turkish music. The analysis of Mesud Cemil’s violoncello taqsim in the maqam Rast towards the categories of positions, bowing techniques, ornamentation techniques, rhythmic patterns, musical sentences, formal structure, musical expression elements and characteristics of maqamic progression, constitutes the purpose of the study. The descriptive scanning model was used in the study. In order to reach the written sources for the biography, artist identity and violoncello performances of Mesud Cemil, the literature search was made and in order to reach the violoncello taqsims of the artist, archive scaning was made. The data related to Mesud Cemil's Rast taqsim were transformed into findings through the notation, document review and categorical content analysis. What the technical and musical elements of Mesud Cemil's violoncello performance in the Turkish music are, were explained by the interpretation of the findings obtained from the artist’s example of Rast taqsim in question. In the direction of the study, both with the performing techniques he applied in the violoncello and the formal understanding he created, it was reached the conclusion that Mesud Cemil revealed an original performing style of violoncello in his Rast taqsim on which a content analysis was made. Despite the fact that Mesud Cemil was a Western music educated cellist, it was reached the conclusion that he performed the violoncello with a proper style which is accordance with the performance tradition and the style of the Turkish music.
