1462259340 A MINIMALIST POSTER ARTIST: PIERRE MENDELL

Pierre Mendell (1929-2008) who was one of the world’s significant graphic designer, born in Essen, Germany. He lived in Paris in the years between 1934 and 1947 and than he returned to France for working his families’ textile firm. In 1958, He began studying graphic design with Armin Hofmann at “Schule für Gestaltung” in Basle. He created Mendell&Oberer Studio in 1961 in Munich. Since 30 years, Mendell, played an important role in the visual identities of “Neue Sammlung” and “Munich International Design Museum”. Mendell, designed a couple of posters for “Staatsoper” in Munich from 1993 to 2006. He is not only created succesfully the visual designs for “Munich Opera” but also linked opera house to originality and immediacy from the eyes of people. Mendell who has simple and archaic style in posters, most of them are choosen from “New York Museum of Modern Art” collections. This studies’ aim is to expain his style through his creations and finding connections between his creativitiy and his minimalist poster works.
