1379889712 THE ROLE OF THE STATUES EXHIBITED AT PUBLIC SPHERE ON THE FORMATION OF ART SUBCULTURE

The moment a statue is located in public space, it is directly integrated with society and becomes an effective tool not only for its artist and its financial supporter. The art of sculpture which is influential on the formation of artistic subculture and level of social appreciation introduces new and different discourses for the era it is composed in. The design of a statue by its artist through the consideration of plastic values and points influential on the formation of social and artistic subculture has an effect on the whole space and can create differences in perception.
Within the scope of the research, the effect of the interview form and the statues in public space on the formation of social and artistic subculture is analysed. The statues analysed in the study are set to be Statue of Republic in Taksim, Statue of Akdeniz and the 50th Year Memorial. A survey has been done about these statues and the views of the public about them have been analysed. The surveys by 397 people have been analysed and conclusions have been drawn in accordance with hypotheses. Considering the evaluations made by the participants, the subculture levels within the context of statues displayed in public space differ significantly according to the gender, age, income level, education level, family’s education level, the length of the period the participant lives in Istanbul, the frequency of using the square, the place of location, whether the participant has or has not got an artistic work, the frequency of participating in an artistic activity and the type of the statue displayed.
